First responders give medical aid to over 175 people at first Nebraska home game
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — First responders were among the sea of red this past Saturday at the Nebraska Cornhusker football game. They gave aid to more than 175 people at the game.
The game, starting at 11 a.m., occurred during peak hours of heat, with temperatures hitting the high 90’s.
A majority of Husker fans were sitting in direct sunlight, adding to the already high temperatures.
First responders including American Red Cross, Lincoln Police Department and more came prepared to deal with heat-related illnesses.
With the next game being another home game, first responders prepare for another possible busy night.
“We’re going to be ready for anything,” American Red Cross Communications Director Josh Murray said. “Our team is always there ready to handle whatever. Hopefully it won’t be as hot but we’ll be prepared to help whether with the heat or something else.”
Murray said many of the fans they helped had fallen into dehydration from drinking alcohol in the heat. He urges any fans coming this weekend to bring and drink plenty of water.
