Lincoln Children’s Zoo unveils new exhibits for you to enjoy all year long

On Thursday afternoon the Lincoln Children’s Zoo unveiled their new tiger exhibit to Channel 8 News.

This comes after years and years of fundraising all coming from the Lincoln community.

“When you go around and say hey would you support love your zoo capital campaign they said “yeah let me pull out my wallet let me help make it a reality,” John Chapo the President of Lincoln Children’s Zoo said.

At the tiger exhibit, you can get up close and personal with the tiger next to an 800-pound panel separating you from the tiger.

The Love Your Zoo campaign was not only just the tiger exhibit opening to the public on May 10th it also brought in many other animals like red pandas and giraffes.

“You’re going to be feed giraffes, feeding the world’s tallest animal and they will be coming right up to you with the long tongue taking the lettuce right out of your hand. You’re going to be sitting in the jeep side to side with a very rare and very dangerous Sumatran tiger,” Chapo said.

For the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, these major additions will only add to the experience when you come and enjoy.

“Lincoln Children’s Zoo is all about learning first hand. It’s always about those rich experience, we’re not a walking gawk zoo where you kind walk and look at something when you come here you do stuff,” Chapo said.

After years of fundraising and building to have these exhibits open to the public in just 2 ½ weeks, officials say they are very excited to have families of all ages come out and enjoy.

“I’m elated; I’m humbled because of the generosity the kindness of our community. I’m elated because with the children’s zoo what I can do for endangered species-saving them from extinction, but I’m really excited about how they can connect kids even better with the wildlife around the world,” Chapo said.
