LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska volleyball is aiming to claim the title of “state champ” with a win over Creighton on Wednesday.

At a press conference Tuesday, head coach John Cook praised No. 16 Creighton, which has secured wins over Purdue and LSU this season.

“They’re very good; they play a lot of great teams,” he said.

But Nebraska has recently reigned supreme over its in-state rival, beating the Bluejays in two consecutive seasons.

“We’ll treat it like any other match,” Cook said. “But one of our goals is to be state champs.”

The Huskers already defeated UNO in front of 92,003 fans at Memorial Stadium last week.

To prepare for the Bluejays, Cook said the Huskers will spend a lot of time improving their serving and passing.

“Offensively, maybe just being a little more creative and opening that up a little bit,” he said.

Cook said the Huskers are still a work in progress about two weeks into the season.

So far, Nebraska has swept all five of its foes, but Creighton will be its first ranked opponent of the season.

“There’s always something to get better at,” he said.
