Lancaster County Election office sees a record high in voter turn out for Tuesday’s primary election

For the Lincoln primary in the race for mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and Cyndi Lamm will move on to next month’s general election.
Another key issue on the ballot was the Quarter-Cent sales tax increase, and it passed by only 600 votes.
Even with it seeming like a tight race they say to not expect a recount.
“Well there’s no statute in state law that allows us to do an automatic recount on an issue based race on the ballot,” David Shively the Lancaster County Election Commissioner said.
With the key issue of the Quarter-Cent sales tax increase, and many new candidates running for different seats in Lincoln, the Lancaster County election office saw a record voter turnout for a city primary.
“Turn out did surprise me because historically we have not been over 39,000 for a city primary election and we got over 50,000 so it did surprise me a little bit, didn’t notice we had some increased interest,” Shively said.
The hope from the Lancaster County Election office is they can have even more voters coming out on for the General Election on May 7th.
