Man caused $5,000 in damage after burning papers in Lincoln apartment, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man accused of arson caused thousands of dollars in damage to a Lincoln apartment building on Sunday, police say.
Around 11 p.m., officers were sent to an apartment complex near 25th and K streets on a report of a man lighting things on fire.
When officers arrived, they spoke with 39-year-old Stanley Phan, who had been burning papers inside his apartment, according to police.
Officers saw burn marks, smoke damage and papers in “varying states of burnt and ash,” police said.
Phan was arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson. Police estimate the apartment had about $5,000 in damage.
