LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A rodent in the road caused a crash on a rural northeast Nebraska highway last week.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office said the one-vehicle crash happened Thursday just north of Stanton on Highway 57.

A 15-year-old girl was heading south when she swerved to avoid a rodent, according to the sheriff’s office.

She lost control, went into a ditch and came to a stop after crashing into a barbed wire fence.

Crews had to rescue the driver from the vehicle.  She was not seriously injured.

The sheriff’s office said the vehicle was a total loss.
