LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska authorities are asking parents to learn more about the risks of taking too much Benadryl, following recent overdoses.

The Sidney Police Department is investigating reports of kids who’ve consumed high levels of the over-the-counter medicine.

SPD says potential side effects include:

  •  Drowsiness, dizziness, and loss of coordination
  •  Dry mouth, nose, and throat
  •  Blurred vision and increased sensitivity to light
  •  Difficulty urinating and constipation
  •  Rapid heart rate and low blood pressure
  •  Confusion, agitation, hallucinations, and delirium
  •  Seizures, coma, and cardiac arrest

The amount of Benadryl that can cause an overdose varies depending on someone’s age, weight and medical condition.

Police say they’re also looking into the Benadryl Challenge that’s been going around TikTok.

Back in April, CNN and other media outlets reported a 13-year-old boy died after doing the challenge.

TikTok sent CNN a statement that said, “Our deepest sympathies go out to the family. At TikTok, we strictly prohibit and remove content that promotes dangerous behavior with the safety of our community as a priority. We have never seen this type of content trend on our platform and have blocked searches for years to help discourage copycat behavior. Our team of 40,000 safety professionals works to remove violations of our Community Guidelines and we encourage our community to report any content or accounts they’re concerned about.”
