Lincoln People’s City Mission sees residents double Wednesday due to cold

On the coldest day of this season, it caused an influx of people to come to the People’s City Mission in an effort to stay warm.
Including a warm shelter, the People’s City Mission provides a meal for those who come inside their doors.
“A meal means everything. I had never at in a place like this. I mean I’m having a taco, and nachos and a really nice meal,” Thomas Nootz a visitor of the People’s City Mission said.
The People’s City Mission has the capacity of 250, but they estimate there could be somewhere in the number of 400 people who will come in seeking just a little bit of shelter and a warm meal.
When the temperatures in Lincoln get this low the People’s City Mission sees a lot of different medical emergencies from their visitors as well.
“We try to make sure they get medical help immediately and we just don’t want them to go anywhere and for them to lose toes or fingers on anything else and so we’ll try to make sure they get help very quickly,” Pastor Tom Barber of the People’s City Mission said.
