Man wielding hammer stole over $10,000 in jewelry from east Lincoln store, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man stole over $10,000 in jewelry from a store in Gateway Mall on Friday, the Lincoln Police Department says.

Around 11:30 a.m., officers were sent to Zales inside the mall near Cotner Boulevard and O Street.

Witnesses told officers that a man came into the store and demanded an employee open one of the display cases.

The employee refused, and a man pulled out a hammer and smashed two displays, according to police.

He grabbed 11 pieces of jewelry, worth around $10,700, and pushed a 72-year-old man to the ground before leaving the store.
