LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Omaha soldier killed during the Korean War will be buried in his hometown later this month.

Army Sgt. 1st Class James Dorrance will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha on Oct. 18.

Roeder Mortuary will perform graveside services before the burial, officials said.

Dorrance was a member of the 82nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery-Automatic Weapons Battalion.

He went missing in action on Dec. 1, 1950, at the age of 20.  Dorrance’s unit had withdrawn from Kunu-ri to Sunchon, North Korea.

Several prisoners of war who returned home in 1953 reported that Dorrance died on March 17, 1951, at a camp in Pyoktong, North Korea.

In 1954, North Korea returned remains that were reportedly from the camp, but Dorrance’s name did not appear on any of the transfer rosters, officials said.

Dorrance was eventually accounted for by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency on May 22, 2023.

More information on Dorrance can be found on the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s website.
