Adoption Day at Lancaster County Courthouse

At the Lancaster County Courthouse, it is a special day for 37 children as they receive a permanent home on adoption day.

As families like the Collier family finish out the long process of their families adoptions.

“I’ll start crying, it’s everything we’ve wanted this for so long,” says Mother, Mary Collier.

Mary and Roger Collier are adopting three of their grandchildren Andrra, Sterling, and Athena, and they have previously adopted the fourth and oldest Aziza.

The four siblings were taken away by child services from Mary and Roger’s son after a drug arrest.

“We taught him right from wrong, but he just decided to go the opposite way, and you know we still love him, but there’s nothing we can do now, you know he’s a grown man,” says Father, Roger Collier.

The goal from the Department of Health and Human Services is to keep families like the Collier family together as much as they possibly can.

“I rather for my grand kids to be with the family than instead of nobody else,” said Roger Collier.

Now their road to this moment hasn’t been easy as the four kids have bounced around.

But the support Mary, and Roger have received throughout the whole process has made a big difference.

“That old saying it takes a village, oh yea!” added Mary Collier.

Through it all, the Collier’s are very happy to officially keep their family together.

“I mean I can’t think of anything better… even hitting the lottery wouldn’t undo this one.”

“Well, my emotions are going to be Wow! You know we finally made it finally did it you know.”
