Lincoln Trail Re-dedicated For Former Mayor
A popular hiker-biker trail along Highway 2 in South Lincoln was re-dedicated Sunday afternoon. The ceremony honored former Lincoln mayor Helen Boosalis, who helped initiate the construction of trails all over the city. She was actually the first woman mayor of Lincoln, serving from 1975 through 1983. At one point, Lincoln didn't have any trails, but now, there's almost 100 miles of them stretching throughout the city. That's thanks in part to the efforts of one pioneering woman who loved nature, Helen Boosalis. Mayor Coleen Seng thought it was appropriate to name the trail at 38th and Highway 2 in her honor Sunday. Lincoln's trail system is so unique and extensive, that the city is even nationally recognized.
