Bennet Fire and Rescue holds open house

Bennet Fire and Rescue held an open house Saturday, and hundreds. from the community showed up to see what life is like for the volunteer firefighters.

“This is a volunteer department everything we do is because we love our community and love to serve. So what we are tying to do is encourage young people to realize this is a great place to give back to your community and you become a volunteer,” said Fire Fighter Tim Norris.

The Bennet Fire department had all types of fun activities for kids to participate in like putting out fires, and learning how dangerous a power line can be.

Over 500 people attended the open house.

“You know we need volunteers and obviously when you get to them young and their excited about it and they come in they look at the trucks and they say ‘what do you guys get to do,’ and ‘how is it?’ and you get them excited at a young age as they get older they want to join the department and really it’s about generations being on,” said Fire Chief of Bennet Fire and Rescue Dax Boyt.

Chief Boyt said he doesn’t need to look too far for the future of the fire department.

“I want to be a firefighter. I think it’s just really fun to go out and fight fire because you’re saving people, and I think fire is really cool,” said Chief Dax’s son Harrison Boyt
