No. 2 Nebraska volleyball topples archrival No. 1 Wisconsin in five-set thriller

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska volleyball removed the thorn in its side Saturday night.

The No. 2 Huskers defeated No. 1 Wisconsin 25-21, 17,25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-13.

The victory breaks NU’s 10-game losing streak against the Badgers, who have been a consistent hurdle in Nebraska’s paths to conference and national titles.

Nebraska went on a 5-0 run early in the first set, but it still came down to the wire.

Wisconsin dominated the second set by racking up twelve blocks.

After dropping the third set, Nebraska rallied with a 6-0 run early in the fourth.

The set was a nailbiter throughout, with six ties.

Nebraska was trailing late in the fifth set before scoring 4 unanswered points. But the match stayed close and came down to the last swing.

Merritt Beason led the Huskers with 21 kills and an ace. Harper Murray added 14, and Ally Batenhorst tacked on 13.

Bergen Reilly and Lexi Rodriguez each had 17 digs. Murray recorded 15, and Laney Choboy added 11.

Andi Jackson led in blocks, with four.

Nebraska, 19-0, will play Maryland at home Friday. The match will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
