Wanted man found with homemade explosive at Lincoln gas station, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was caught Monday evening with a homemade explosive at a Lincoln gas station, police say.

Around 5:50 p.m., officers were sent to a U-Stop near 27th and E streets after a man was reported to be bothering customers.

Officers saw 44-year-old Christopher Bouwens, who had a warrant out for his arrest.

He was taken into custody.  Police said Bouwens had a 6-inch PVC pipe with an unknown substance and a fuse.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue deemed the device an explosive, according to police.

It was handed over to a hazardous materials unit for further investigation.

Bouwens was arrested on the warrant and on suspicion of possession of a destructive device.
