No smoke detector? LFR can hook you up with one

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Smoke detectors are vital for survival during a fire.

They give you early warning to escape before a fire gets out of control.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue pointed to an early Thursday morning fire as an example of what can happen without them.

A man was found unconscious inside a smoke-filled home, which did not have smoke detectors.

He was rescued but is in critical condition.

You can buy a smoke detector at any hardware store.

If you can’t afford one, LFR will bring you one, spokeswoman MJ Lierman said.

It also has special smoke detectors for the deaf and hard of hearing.

And if you have a smoke detector but can’t reach it to change the batteries, firefighters will come do it for you.

You can request a smoke alarm here.
