LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Drivers heading through downtown Lincoln may see a spike in traffic due to a trio of road closures starting next week.

A portion of three streets will shut down Monday for the demolition of the old Lincoln Journal Star production building near 9th and Q streets.

The upcoming street closures:

  • Ninth Street between R and Q streets – The two easternmost lanes will be closed.
  • 10th Street between Q Street and the Interstate 180 on-ramp – The two westernmost lanes will be closed.
  • Q Street between 10th and 11th streets – All lanes will be closed.

The sidewalks on the east side of Ninth Street, the west side of 10th Street and the north side of Q Street will also be closed.

Several StarTran routes may be delayed during the roadwork, according to city officials.

I-180 traffic should consider using Highway 77 as an alternate route, officials said.  Downtown traffic can use Antelope Valley Parkway or Rosa Parks Way as detours.

The work is expected to be finished by the end of December.

More information on street closures can be found on the city’s website.
