Driver swerves to avoid deer, crashes into creek in rural southeast Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two people were rescued Monday morning from a vehicle that crashed into a rural Gage County creek.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near 94th Road and Rockford Drive, east of Beatrice.
A Mini Cooper was heading north when a deer entered the road, causing the driver – a 39-year-old Barneston man – to swerve.
The vehicle went into a ditch and hit a creek embankment, the sheriff’s office said.
When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle on its roof at the bottom of the creek.
Beatrice Fire and Rescue crews rescued the man and a six-year-old child from the vehicle.
Both of them were taken to a Lincoln hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
It is unknown if the child was properly restrained, and an investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
