Blizzard conditions are likely on Christmas

Following a mainly rainy Christmas Eve in eastern Nebraska a chance for snow arrives overnight into Christmas Day. On and off snow will be likely for much of the state heading into Wednesday morning. Roads will likely be impacted from slick spots to potential blowing snow.

Red- Blizzard Warning in place for north and central Nebraska through 6:00 am Wednesday. Several inches of snow expected with winds up to 55 mph.

Pink- Winter Storm Watch for parts of south and eastern Nebraska through 6: 00 am Wednesday. Less snow expected compared to red counties, but more than purple, with winds reaching 45-55 mph.

Purple- Winter Weather Advisory for parts of SE and some far west counties through 6:00 am Wednesday. Lighter snow expected with winds up to 45-50 mph.

Blue- Storm Watch in place for some far SW counties until 6:00 am Wednesday. The least amount of snow expected with winds gusting up to 45mph.

Most snowfall on Monday will stay in central and eastern Nebraska, with north and central counties expected to see the most total inches overall early Wednesday.

Winds will pick up Monday through Tuesday, with gusts ranging from 35-55 mph. Much like the snow totals we will see stronger winds more towards north and central Nebraska. The strong winds are likely to pick up snow and reduce visibility.

Monday will bring many eastern counties a chance for snow starting as early as 3:00 am. The winter storm will continue on and off through early Wednesday. The Channel 8 Storm Alert Team is continuing to monitor and provide updates on the winter storm as it approaches.
