Bryan Medical Center honored for outstanding maternity care
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)– Bryan Medical Center has been honored for providing quality and affordable maternal care. It has been designated as a Blue Cross and Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center+.
“We’re excited to be recognized once again by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska for meeting the rigorous selection criteria for maternity care set forth by this program,” Alexa Lewis, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services said. “The Bryan Family Birthplace is committed to providing our region with a comprehensive facility to meet the needs of birthing families, children, and babies. This recognition emphasizes our promise and we’re proud to deliver high-quality care during one of the most important times in our patients’ lives.”
To receive the designation, a hospital must demonstrate its expertise in several quality measures, including the percentage of newborns that fall into the category of early elective delivery. In addition, these facilities meet the requirements that align with principles that support evidence-based practices of care, as well as having initiated programs to promote successful breastfeeding. The designation also evaluates hospitals on overall patient satisfaction and cost efficiency.
Nearly four million babies are born in the United States annually, making childbirth the most common cause of hospitalization.
The Blue Distinction Specialty Care program seeks to reduce the burden of finding quality healthcare options by empowering patients with the knowledge and tools to find both quality and value for their maternity care. Research shows that facilities designated as Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients compared with their peers.
