Fairbury man arrested for kidnapping following high speed chase

FAIRBURY, Ne., – On June 13, 2019, at 04:50 a.m., Deputies of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were notified of an intruder in a residence located at the corner of 8th and L St. in Fairbury, Nebraska.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Christopher P. Kuhlmann, who at the time had active warrants out of Jefferson County for misdemeanor domestic assault, assault by mutual consent, false imprisonment, and child abuse.
Kuhlmann entered a home in Fairbury, Nebraska, forcibly kidnapped a female victim and forced her into a vehicle outside the residence. Deputies arrived on the scene as the suspect’s vehicle and the victim were leaving.
A high-speed pursuit ensued at this time, traveling westbound toward Hebron, Nebraska, on Highway 136. Speeds reached 115 m.p.h. and the vehicle then went south bound on Highway 81 into Kansas.
Upon reaching Belleville, Kansas, the suspect vehicle spun out at an intersection and deputies were able to disable the suspects vehicle.
Kuhlmann was taken into custody and charged with Kidnapping, Burglary, Felony Flight to Avoid Arrest and Terroristic Threats.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Thayer County Sheriff’s Office and Belleville Police Department in this matter.
This matter remains under investigation and further charges could be filed.
