Light, wintry mix early before chance again into Wednesday

A wintry mix of freezing rain, freezing drizzle, and light snow will lead to some slick spots late this morning. Slick spots already noted in Tecumseh and very spotty snow showers around Plattsmouth. Anticipate bridges, overpasses and untreated surfaces to freeze with fog and light precipitation possible for the morning commute.

Tue Am Stormcast

As for Lincoln, the best timing to see some drizzle/freezing would be between 8-10 a.m. Tuesday morning, although most of it will stay to the south and east through the morning.

Mixed Precip 10 Hrs

Winter Weather Advisory will continue until noon Tuesday for mixed precipitation expected. Ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch are possible in this area especially, leading to slippery surfaces where pockets see precipitation.

There is also a widespread Dense Fog Advisory for most of Nebraska through noon Tuesday. Visibility at times could drop to one quarter mile or less in dense fog, and moisture could freeze to untreated roads and sidewalks.

Dense Fog Adv 5a

We’ll look for a break from the wintry mix and fog for a time into the afternoon, but by Tuesday night into Wednesday more of the same is possible. We’ll be watching similar areas for a chance at mixed precipitation for Wednesday morning’s commute as well.

Wed Am

Then, it looks like a much-needed break from this winter weather will happen. Smaller chances now for precipitation most of Wednesday into Thursday, but our next break in the cloud cover won’t come until the second half of the weekend into Monday of next week.
