Seward County deputy stabbed; woman in custody after seven-hour standoff

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Seward County deputy was stabbed in Utica on Wednesday, authorities say.

Deputies were called to a disturbance at a home about 1:40 p.m., according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Nicole Nisly, 22, hit someone on the head with a frying pan, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office said.

When deputies arrived, Nisly stabbed one of them with a knife, the patrol said.

She barricaded herself inside a bedroom and threatened to harm herself or her child, authorities said.

State troopers were called in to help, and Nisly let the child go after “multiple hours” of negotiations.

About 8:30 p.m., the state patrol SWAT team entered the room and arrested her.

The deputy suffered a minor injury and has been released from a Seward hospital.

Neither Nisly nor the child were injured, according to the patrol.

The child was taken into protective custody.
