1 in 5 Nebraskans have unclaimed property, state treasurer says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska State Treasurer Tom Briese wants you to claim what’s yours.

Thursday is National Unclaimed Property Day, and Briese is encouraging Nebraskans to check if they have any cash waiting for them.

“We currently have over $200 million of unclaimed property at our office,” Briese said.  “And we estimate that 1 in 5 Nebraskans have unclaimed property.”

Last year, the treasurer’s unclaimed property division dished out more than $17 million.

“We want to get that property back to Nebraskans,” Briese said.  “And so I’d encourage them to take a look.”
