Lincoln dog bar hosts watch party for Puppy and Super Bowls

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – On Super bowl Sunday, businesses around Lincoln celebrated the unofficial holiday with watch parties.

At the Urban Hound Dog Park & Bar, pet owners gathered with their dogs to watch the puppy bowl as well.

Penny LeDuc, owner of the bar, said she opened the place last August.

She wanted to create a safe environment to socialize with dogs, make friends and have a few drinks.

“We’re building a great community of dog lovers,” she said. “It’s kind of like the Cheers of dog bars. People walk in and go ‘Oh Milton’s here!’ Everybody knows the dogs’ names.”

LeDuc said she didn’t do it for the money, but to bring dog lovers together.

One owner, Alison Evert, brought her dog Hobbes to join the celebration.

She said taking your dog to other restaurants or bars can be difficult, even when there’s outdoor spaces.

“You’re always kinds of worried if your dog is stressed out or if people around you are bugged by your dog,” Evert said. “It’s nice to have a place to come with your friends and hang out, and your dog gets to hang out with his friends.”

Anyone is welcome at the bar, but your dog does have to have their vaccinations before being let in.

There are also handlers on stand-by to make sure dogs stay safe and don’t get too rowdy.
