WATCH: Deputy rescues dog from icy pond near Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A dog named Bear was saved last week by a Lancaster County sheriff’s deputy.

On Feb. 4, the dog fell through the ice on a pond outside Lincoln, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Bear’s owner also fell in the water as she tried to rescue him, the sheriff’s office said in a video posted to social media on Tuesday.

The woman made it out of the pond, but the dog was still in the water.

Deputy John Brady walked across the ice, pushing a kayak.

He fell through as he approached Bear but put the dog in the kayak and pushed him back to land.

Brady leads the agency’s marine unit and is a former U.S. Navy rescue swimmer.

“John was in the right place at the right time and chose to enter the water,” the sheriff’s office said. “His actions saved the dog’s life and brought a happy ending to this story.”
