Lincoln mayor nominates Michon Morrow to be LPD’s chief of police
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Acting Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow was nominated Tuesday to hold the position permanently.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced her nomination of Morrow, who has been a member of the Lincoln Police Department since 1995, at a press conference.
“I prioritized selecting someone who is an experienced and trusted leader,” Gaylor Baird said.
Morrow was appointed acting chief of police in July after Teresa Ewins abruptly resigned from the agency.
“As acting chief, Morrow has led the department for the past seven months with the same qualities that have been the hallmark of her 29 years of service at LPD,” Gaylor Baird said.
Morrow said her main priorities will be recruitment, retention, resiliency and respect.
“It’s been an honor to be considered to lead the department that has been my home for nearly three decades,” Morrow said.
Morrow’s husband is also an LPD officer. Between the two of them, they have 55 years on the job.
She said her family, including their two sons, is devoted to service.
“It means so much in how we’ve raised our family, based on how I was raised in public service, that they’re both following in our footsteps of wanting to serve the community,” Morrow said.
The nomination will be forwarded to the Lincoln City Council. A public hearing and vote will be held on March 18.
