NDOL: Nebraska unemployment claims on the decline

LINCOLN, Neb. — Thursday, the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) announced that new unemployment claims have been declining.

Last week, we saw 3,973 new regular unemployment claims filed, a 51.6 percent decrease from the week prior. While only 1,500 new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claims were filed, down 3.1 percent from the week before.

All 20 industry sectors saw a decrease in claims. The largest drop being in accommodation and food services with only 473 claims, an over 100 percent decrease from the week before.

The top three occupations filing were cashiers at 118, customer service representatives at 84, and waiters and waitresses at 77 claims.

As for Continued Unemployment claims, which refers to the individual weeks of unemployment claimed after a person applies for benefits, 26,599 PUA’s and 50,647 regular unemployment claims were filed last week.

NDOL paid 51.8 million dollars in benefits, including regular, PUA, $600 CARES Act payments, and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PUEC). The $600 Cares Act payments are scheduled to end July 25.
