LPD investigating homicide of woman shot on Lincoln bus

This afternoon at 2:38 p.m., Lincoln Police Officers responded to the report of a shooting occurring on A Street, between South 17th and South 27th Street.

Lincoln police are investigating the shooting death of a woman on a city bus as a homicide.

Police say the shooting happened around 2:40 p.m. on A St. between S. 17th and S. 27th St.

The woman, the only passenger on the City of Lincoln bus, was shot, police said. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the preliminary investigation shows the bus was in motion on the city street and a bullet entered the driver’s side of the bus striking the female where she was seated.

Investigators are working to notify family members, canvassing the area for witnesses, and searching for digital and forensic evidence.

A Street will remain closed as investigators process the scene. Please avoid the area and take an alternate route.

LPD is still in the beginning phases of the investigation. Further details will be released Friday morning, police said.
