Lincoln man accused of smashing jewelry cases with hammer is arrested

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Wednesday after a string of robberies in Lincoln, according to court records.

On Oct. 6, 23-year-old Rolando Camareno went to Zales at Gateway Mall and demanded that an employee open a jewelry case, an arrest affidavit says.

The employee refused, and Camareno started smashing the cases with a hammer, according to the affidavit.

He left with over $10,000 in jewelry.

A few months later, on Feb. 17, Camareno — who was armed with a gun — robbed a teenager while he was walking to school, an affidavit alleges.

Camareno drove off with the teen’s laptop, debit card and learner’s permit, police said.

Investigators later identified Camareno as a suspect and took him into custody.  He also had several warrants out for his arrest.

Camareno was charged with two counts of robbery.

A Lancaster County judge set Camareno’s bond at $100,000.  He must pay $10,000 to be released from jail.
