Trinity Fitness, Christ-based gym, focuses on getting fit from the inside out

Getting in shape is one thing, but staying mentally and physically is a whole other challenge.

One Lincoln gym, Trinity Fitness, is taking a unique approach to accomplish all of the above, with the help of Christ and community.

“We’re a non profit and we want people to be in the best physical and spiritual fitness of their lives,” manager of the gym Nate Gay said.

Trinity Fitness has been open since August 2017. They have daily classes that begin with devotionals and end with prayer requests.

In the middle, there are different workouts each day, but the focus is never just on getting fit, Gay said.

“That’s what we always say here,” Gay said. “We’re about physical training, but we focus on spiritual health more and more.”

Those who go, like Lincoln man Taylor Jones, said the focus on spirituality makes a big difference.

“That’s why I’m here,” Jones said. “The devotion in the beginning gets you centered and the prayer requests at the end are huge, it gives you an opportunity to come together with a group of people and be heard in front of God.”

They said it makes Trinity Fitness a community.

“The gym can sometimes be an isolating event where you come in, you do your own thing,” Gay said. “You can become very focused on the negative components, but here it’s all about lifting each other up.”

It’s made a big difference in many people’s lives, Gay said.

Jones said he’s lost 30 pounds and he’s stronger than ever, but he’s also happier.

“I love this gym,” Jones said. “I came here and found a family, a community that I could work out with, people I’ve come to love, it’s a lot more than a work out.”

Anyone can come, and there’s no set price. Gay said they suggest a monthly donation of $60 if you can afford it.

“We don’t want money to get in the way of anyone getting in the best shape of their lives,” Gay said.
