LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – On Thursday afternoon, the Center for People showed off the brand-new food distribution center on its campus.

“Our goal is to treat our visitors with dignity,” Executive Director Macala Carter said. “That means offering a more human approach for them to collect food and diapers.”

The Center for People is a nonprofit that provides a wide range of services to people in need, one of those, of course, being food distribution.

It recently received a $1 million food innovation grant from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

With that money, it built a food distribution center in the style of a modern grocery store, as opposed to the warehouse it was previously using.

The People’s Pantry will open on Monday.

It also offers a full kitchen where cooking classes and tasting parties will be held.
