Affidavit: Lincoln woman was smoking meth when 2-year-old fell from window
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln woman was arrested Tuesday after her child fell out of a window earlier this year, court documents say.
Around 10 p.m. on Feb. 6, first responders were called to an apartment near Ninth and Washington streets.
A 2-year-old boy fell out of a second-floor window, according to court documents.
Investigators think the child climbed on a couch and fell out after pushing on the window screen.
The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital in Omaha with a skull fracture.
Officers spoke with his mother, 31-year-old Breanna Abbott, who agreed to a search of the apartment.
Inside a bedroom, officers smelled marijuana and found narcotics, including bags with methamphetamine residue, an arrest affidavit alleges.
Abbott initially told officers that she was the only one home with her children, the affidavit alleges.
But investigators learned that Abbott was smoking meth with friends when her son fell out of the window, according to the affidavit.
The apartment had four surveillance cameras, but Abbott deleted video from that night, the affidavit says.
Her four children were placed in temporary custody of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
All four children had hair follicle tests, which found the presence of meth, the affidavit says.
Abbott was charged with felony child abuse, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
A Lancaster County judge set her bond at $700,000. She must pay $70,000 to be released from jail.
