LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Husker volleyball coach John Cook will serve as grand marshal for the 103rd annual Nebraska’s Big Rodeo.

On Sunday, the rodeo board said Cook has “developed a passion for the western way of life” and the sport of rodeo over the last few years.

Jess Helgoth, the rodeo board’s president, said it’s great for the community that Cook will be at the four-day event in Burwell.

“Cook is such a nice, down-to-earth guy,” Helgoth said in a Facebook post.  “He loves Nebraska and the sport of rodeo and will be a great fit as grand marshal this year.”

Officials said Cook is developing his roping skills, and he recently spent a day at The Pitzer Ranch near Ericson.
