Five Lincoln librarians awarded for saving patron’s life
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Five staff members at Bennett Martin Library received the Mayor’s Award of Excellence on Monday for their actions in a medical emergency.
In February, a library patron was found unresponsive at a desk.
The staff sprang into action and performed CPR while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
They managed to revive the person, who was then taken to a hospital.
Library Director Ryan Wieber said it was “neat” to see his team work together.
“They all acted in coordinated effort to take the right steps,” he said.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird presents the award every month to city employees who provide outstanding service.
Wieber said a security guard at the library, Firas Pirali, led the team’s efforts, but he is not eligible for the award because he is not employed by the city.
The award recipients received a $50 gift certificate, a day off work with pay and a plaque.
