Bryan LifePointe fighting Parkinson’s disease in more ways than one

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A special program at Bryan Health’s LifePointe Campus offered an inside look Wednesday morning at its boxing classes for Parkinson’s patients.

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and this class helps prevent the progression of the disease.

Rock Steady Boxing is designed to help patients improve strength, flexibility, speed and balance through boxing motions that move the body in all planes of direction.

They also practice cognitive exercises to strengthen the brain while they do physical exercises.

“It just makes me feel like I’m capable of beating this disease,” Diane Kacvinsky, a daily participant, said of the program. “It’s not going to get the best of me.”

This program is open to all Parkinson’s patients, and Bryan has different levels of classes to suit the abilities of each patient.
