Recent tornado prepares Waverly Fire & Rescue for future severe weather
WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) — Waverly Fire & Rescue is keeping an eye on the sky Monday night with the potential for severe weather in the forecast.
Fire Chief Jared Rains said the department’s experience with last month’s tornado is gearing it up for future severe weather challenges.
“Today you’re looking at who do I have around, what’s the National Weather Service saying or what the local news is saying that today is supposed to be,” Rains said. “You kind of just take it day by day.”

The recent twister was a learning experience for the department, according to Rains.
“If everybody that was there didn’t learn something from it, that’s hard to believe,” he said.
Plenty of severe weather scenarios can be planned for, but the department also expects the unexpected.
“You hope it never happens to your community, and then when it does, you see the destruction,” Rains said.
