A 36-year-old woman has died after she was shot in her home Tuesday morning. The people responsible for her death are still unknown.
This has the police asking the public to come forward with any information they have about this crime.
Here’s what police have released so far. Based on interviews with witnesses, intruders entered the home near 20th and Fairfield at 3:30 a.m. Then, 15 minutes later, police responded to a call about a gunshot wound at that address.
"When we got there her family was attempting to revive her until relieved by a Lincoln Police Officer who began CPR,” Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said.
Bliemeister said Lincoln Fire and Rescue took her to Bryan West Hospital where she died at around 5:00 a.m. Police haven’t released the victim’s name.
"The entire police department wants to send our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased,” Bliemeister said Tuesday morning.
Police said there were four children and two other adults in the house at the time of the shooting, nobody besides the victim was injured. They haven’t released any suspect information, and say they don’t yet have a clear picture of what happened.
"We need to solidify the information that’s being garnered from interviews with the various people inside the home,” Bliemeister said.
Investigators canvassed the area in the hours after it happened and have been looking for evidence ever since.
A neighbor, Brad Memming said he was shocked when he left his house this morning.
"I came out the door this morning to see all the police cars but I slept through everything,” Memming said.
He said he can’t help but wonder why this happened in his neighborhood, which he said is overall pretty safe.
"It’s disturbing,” Memming said. “Definitely doesn’t make you feel good."
Police were unable to confirm whether or not there is an ongoing threat to the community at this time. They ask you to avoid the area as crime scene investigators will be there for the next several hours, and possibly into the week.
If you know anything about this crime call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Lincoln Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600.
