Husker track and field athlete earns prestigious Elite 90 award

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska track and field announced Thursday that Hillevi Carlsson won the Elite 90 award at the NCAA track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The Elite 90 is an award that recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating in national championships.

Carlsson currently carries a 4.0 GPA while studying discrete math and cryptography.

In her championship appearance, Carlsson threw 199 feet, 10 inches in the hammer throw to finish 22nd overall.

The sophomore from Falun, Sweden, is the 14th athlete and ninth track and field athlete to win this award in Nebraska history.

Nebraska gymnast Danielle Breen won the award in 2018.
