Nebraska football names freshman Dylan Raiola as starting quarterback

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football named true freshman Dylan Raiola as its starting quarterback on Wednesday.

In a post on social media, Nebraska announced that Raiola is starting under center for the Huskers against UTEP on Aug. 31.

Raiola becomes the second true freshman quarterback to start a season opener.  Adrian Martinez was the first to do it in 2018.

Junior Heinrich Haarberg and freshman Daniel Kaelin will back up Raiola.

Dylan, a five-star recruit out of high school, is the son of Husker legend Dominic Raiola and nephew of offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.

He initially committed to Georgia but later flipped his commitment to Nebraska.

The Buford, Georgia, native is the highest-ranked recruit to pick Nebraska since 2006, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported.
