Water pipe burst leads to evacuation of Waverly nursing home
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A nursing home in Waverly was evacuated early Monday morning after a pipe burst.
Around 5:50 a.m., Waverly Fire & Rescue crews were called to The Mulberry nursing home near 137th and Oldfield streets.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said a water pipe burst, and water was “shooting” from the ceiling above the nurses’ station.
The ceiling collapsed and there was about an inch of standing water on the floor, according to Houchin.
Additional crews were called in to help evacuate 30 residents and relocate them to the Waverly Community Foundation building.
No one was injured. Houchin is unsure of the long-term plan for the relocated residents.
“Sometimes bad luck just hits, and pipes break and that’s what happened,” Houchin said.
