Candlelight vigil held in downtown Lincoln to honor victim of deadly shooting

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The family of a Lincoln homicide victim gathered for a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night.

Saiveon Hopkins was shot and killed early Sunday morning after several fights broke out near 11th and P streets, according to police.

His family said he was in town visiting and took his mother to the Husker football game.

Devastation is weighing heavily on his family now as they try to cope with his death.

Hopkins grew up in Lincoln, and his friends and family got together to honor his memory with a vigil.

His friends spoke about how giving and kind he was, saying he always had a smile on his face.

Hopkins’ family said he had a strong work ethic and is leaving behind an incredible legacy, including a baby daughter.

Those at the vigil said this is an unbearable pain caused by a senseless tragedy.

His family hopes through the sorrow, they can find justice.
