LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a helicopter crash just outside of Lexington.

Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, first responders went to a downed aircraft near Road 755 and the Platte River.

Officials said the helicopter was spraying an herbicide in the Platte River for vegetation control.

On the way down, the helicopter crashed into transmission lines, which fell across Interstate 80, the sheriff’s office said.

The interstate was closed for 15 miles in both directions while the lines were cleaned up.

Officials said there was a loss of power in the area for a short time.

The pilot was taken to the Lexington Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The sheriff’s office isn’t releasing the name of the pilot at this time.
