SCAM ALERT: Suspects claiming to be police scamming Lincoln residents

Scam

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Over the last two days, unknown suspects have called Lincoln residents, masquerading as police officers and asking people to buy gift cards; and if they didn’t, a warrant would be put out for their arrest.

Lincoln Police officers report a 27-year-old victim suffered a loss of $300 after being targeted with this scam.

Officers believe the suspects are using accident reports to get people’s information.

They want to stress that this is something Lincoln Police would never do, saying ‘when in doubt, give us a shout.’

You can call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 to verify an officer’s identity.

If you need to report a scam, dial 402-441-6000.
