LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – This is a timestamped blog of events impacting roads and travel during the December 29 winter storm.

12:00 pm – The City of Lincoln says the plowing of main arteries is complete and residential streets are 90% complete. City inspectors are looking at the progress and if there are problem areas they are being addressed.

7:00 am – This is a good reminder to keep a winter weather survival kit in your car. Nebraska State Patrol says that should include a First Aid Kit, phone charger, ice scraper, shovel, a small bag of sand, flashlight with extra batteries, blankets or sleeping bags, extra clothing and winter accessories, jumper cables, towrope, tool kit, matches, candles, red flag or bandana, high energy or dehydrated foods, and bottled water.

5:25 am 12/30 – 20 crews completed treating arterial and bus routes in the city of Lincoln. Over 30 crews are still plowing residential streets. There are no parking bans in place at this time, but residents are encouraged to move their cars off-street to make room for snowplows. Lancaster County crews started treating and removing snow on county paved and gravel roads. If you have a county road concern, call (402)441-7681.

3 am 12/30 – 59 crews spent the overnight hours working to clear main artery streets while 31 crews worked on residential streets.

12:01 am 12/30 – The SNOW EMERGENCY has ended, according to the city. Parking is now allowed on major streets and bus routes (where normally allowed by law).

9:00 pm – Nebraska State Patrol tells us they responded to more than 200 incidents throughout the storm on Tuesday. More than 170 of those were assisting drivers in need. There were 28 crashes they handled as well. There were no life-threatening injuries in those crashes.

4:45 pm – 31 crews are working to clear residential streets, as a reminder, there is NOT a residential street parking ban but if you can avoid parking on the street please do so those plows can get through and clear as much of the row as possible.

4:05 pm – Nebraska State Patrol has responded to 150+ weather-related incidents. 129 of those were motorist assists. (Thank YOU for helping us on the roads when we need help, by the way!)

4:00 pm – Crews continue to monitor the streets and work to clear the streets. The crews are prepared to move to de-icing if needed.  All Lincoln libraries are now closed for the day due to weather.

12pm – Nebraska State Patrol update: Troopers have responded to more than 100 weather-related incidents and 80 of those were assisting motorists who needed help.

11:25 – Eagle in Cass County has issued a Snow Emergency effective at 3 pm that runs through 4 pm Wednesday.

11:15 am – Lincoln Transportation and Utilities has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY in Lincoln EFFECTIVE AT 1 PM. This means parking is banned on both sides of the emergency snow routes, bus routes, and other major arterial streets. Here is a MAP OF THOSE ROUTES. This is NOT a residential parking ban.

11:00 am – I-80 in the Panhandle is now open again.

9:45 am – We now know 85 city and contractor crews are working in Lincoln to clear the streets. The residential street cleaning began at 9 am. There isn’t a parking ban in effect, but you are asked to keep cars off the streets so plows have plenty of room to get through. The plows might need to go through several times to get the snow accumulation off the roadway. Report is that roads are snow-covered and snow-packed.

9:00 am – Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist John Dissauer has gotten a snow report 1.5″ of snow in Fairbury with the last band being mostly sleet/freezing rain. Metal was left with a glaze on it.

8:45 am – A reminder to slow down on slick streets. A wintry mix is inching closer to Nebraska from the south, which could mean a transition to some sleet or freezing rain.

8:00 am – The Nebraska Department of Transportation is asking people to reconsider traveling if they are heading between Omaha to Grand Island.

6:30 am – We’ve measured 2 inches of snow at the Channel 8 studios this morning. What’s happening in your neighborhood? Email us 8@klkntv.com.

5:00 am – There is snow covering roads across much, if not all, of the area. Use caution if you have to drive.

3:00 am – City of Lincoln has 20 material spreaders working city streets.

3:00 – Channel 8 Video Editor Zach records this video on his drive into work in Denton

2:00 am – Snow starts falling in Lincoln, reports of heavy snow by 3am
