‘We need to come together’: York County filling semi with donations for hurricane victims
McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (KLKN) – Several people in York County are working together to send a semitruck full of donations to hurricane victims.
Courtney Fisher started collecting donations in the county less than a week ago, and the pile of donations in her garage is getting bigger by the day.
She said now is her time to give back to those in need.
“If I have the resources to get a large amount of stuff down there I need to use it, and we need to come together to help people,” she said.
Her dad owns a trucking company, and on Monday, he will drive the semitruck to a church in Tennessee, which is serving as a distribution hub for those in need.
And many others around the area are helping fill the truck.
Dana Hall is an agriculture teacher at McCool Junction Schools. She is also a FFA advisor and 4-H leader, and she’s having her students spread the word about the drive.
“God was calling us to get our friends in 4-H and FFA involved to help the trucking company get their truck full so we can get these people in Tennessee some help,” she said.
Hall’s students said helping others is what 4-H is all about.
“We focus on community service and helping others when they’re going through tough times,” Bailey Hall, Dana’s daughter, said. “And being able to do this really puts out what we’re really about.”
There will be a trailer at Bomgaars in York on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where anyone can drop items off.
Hall said FFA chapters in McCool Junction, York, Crete, Heartland, Centennial, Fillmore Central and Cross County.
There are also drop-off locations at the York County Extension Office and the Benedict and McCool community churches.

“It’s unfortunate that this disaster happened, but we’re glad to be able to teach them through this, so something good can come out of something horrible,” Dana Hall said.
