Lincoln Police arrest man on felony weapons charges

Lincoln Police have arrested a man for a federal arrest warrant, as well as charges in the city.
30-year-old Damingo Burks was arrested for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of deadly weapon to commit a felony, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, theft by receiving more than $5,000 and misdemeanor charges.
He was arrested after an incident Wednesday morning.
Lincoln Police attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Goodhue Boulevard and E St., when the vehicle fled briefly and then parked, after that the driver fled on foot.
The driver, Damingo Burks, was arrested hiding in an exterior stairwell to an apartment building a short distance from a canine track.
Several shotgun ammunition rounds had been discovered in the vehicle and Burks allegedly had another shotgun round in his pocket.
LPD says near Burks, when he was arrested was a sawed off shotgun.
Authorities said, he also had a makeshift holster for the shotgun on his leg.
Another live shotgun round was in the shotgun at the time.
Police say the vehicle Burks was driving was reported stolen from Omaha.
The two other passengers in the car were interviewed and released.
