LPD: Armed confrontation leaves home damaged by gunshots

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln home was hit by multiple gunshots during an early morning armed confrontation.
The incident happened on Saturday, Dec. 19 around 1 a.m.
Lincoln Police responded to the damaged home in the 2800 block of Homeland Place, only to find it empty.
The owners, a 31-year-old male and a 44-year-old female, claimed their adult children have been staying on the property.
Officers say an AR-15 was found at the scene, which was later linked to 18-year-old Justin Smith.
Following further investigation, Lincoln Police determined Smith was at the home with two other individuals. Smith is not related to the homeowners nor does he live on the property.
Officers say a separate group of people had arrived at the home in two cars to fight Smith.
Allegedly, Smith fired a shot at the group of people from inside the residence. An individual outside returned fire several times, causing damage to the home.
Nearly three weeks later, Smith was spotted walking near 44th and “C” Streets and taken into custody. He was arrested on multiple weapons charges.
Lincoln Police is still investigating the incident and expects more arrests to come of it.
