National Work Zone Awareness Week

This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week, and city officials are urging drivers to use caution in work zones.
Here’s some tips from the Nebraska Dept. of Transportation:
Plan ahead, make sure you have plenty of time to get to your destination and know where construction will be.
Always obey road crews and signs of caution.
Move over for construction vehicles, sometimes they can’t see you and they need room to move.
Avoid distractions, like cellphones, tuning the radio or any other thing that might keep your eyes off the road.
And of course slow down, reduce your speed and be prepared to stop.
The federal government says work zone fatalities increased two percent last year.
They’re looking to reduce that number.
The theme is “Drive like you work here.”
