CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Car goes airborne after smashing through Centennial Mall barriers

The driver was arrested for DUI

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A jaw-dropping video shows just how dangerous drinking and driving can be, as investigators say the driver of a vehicle that smashed through the barriers at Centennial Park was impaired at the time of the accident.

The video shows the car makes no effort to slow down as it hit a barrier, went into the air momentarily, and came to a rest in the grass of Centennial Park near the State Office Building. After a moment, the car turned around the on grass, drove onto the sidewalk, and pulled off on the street, with exhaust coming from behind.

The barrier was hit with such force it was ripped from the ground and could be seen laying on the grass.

Nebraska State Police say Lincoln Police were able to arrest the driver moments later and remind all drivers that impaired driving is to blame for a third of all deaths in Nebraska each year.
